Peer Support

The staff of Family Based Services of New Jersey (FBSANJ) is comprised of parents and caregivers of children with challenges related to mental and behavioral health, substance abuse and developmental delays. Our organization is unique because we are PARENTS supporting Parents.  We provide support, education and advocacy to families in Monmouth County and have sister organizations in each county throughout New Jersey.

We are the Monmouth County peer support partner organization in the New Jersey Children’s System of Care, a division of the NJ Department of Children and Families. The Children’s System of Care affords wraparound care management to all qualifying children in the state. Services are provided regardless of family income or insurance eligibility.

Our primary goal is to empower parents / caregivers to advocate for their own children and families by helping each parent/caregiver find their own voice in the decisions made on or behalf of their children and families. We let them know they are not alone in this journey and we help empower them to find long lasting, sustainable supports within their own family structure and community.

We also reach out to the community to provide similar assistance to families whose children have not reached the crisis stage.  We work with other  family members and Family Support Organizations to advocate at the legislative level, ensuring that local, state and federal legislators are familiar with and sympathetic to the needs and concerns of our community.

We believe in a strengths-based, community-centered, preventive approach that respects a family’s individual dreams, aspirations, and needs. Our philosophy requires that we remain sensitive to the cultural and religious traditions of each family.

Our support services are free-of-charge. Tax-deductible charitable donations that enhance our ability to serve and provide support to warm-line families and youth programming are gratefully accepted.

Support Groups

All programs are free but a reservation is required. Please call (732) 542-4502 to register. Food and Childcare Provided.

Support Groups are a place where families, parents, and caregivers can come to be encouraged, laugh, cry, and share with other families whose children are experiencing tough emotional / behavioral, DD, and substance abuse challenges. The groups are peer-led by one of our staff members. We can provide parents seeking clinical help with available resources in the community.

Support Services

Getting your child enrolled in the Children's System of Care

FBASNJ will assist families in making contact with the entry point into the Children's System of Care, PerformCare. Families can make these calls on their own as well. Their phone number is (877) 652-7624.

Peer to Peer Support

FBSANJ provides support when a family needs it most. We help empower families to learn about their children's needs, resources available, and navigate the mental health system. Most importantly, we help parents create their own self-help skill plan; you can't be an empowered parent until you empower yourself.

Resource Referrals for your family

FBSANJ maintains a resource file for families in need of information on housing, utilities, food banks, social security, and education entitlement. View our community resources.

Family Support Groups

FBSANJ facilitates parent / caregiver peer support groups. Families share their personal stories and discover creative strategies to reach their goals.

Recreational and Educational Activities for Our Families

FBSANJ hosts a number of social and educational events for our families throughout the year including an annual Family Picnic and BBQ, Pot Luck dinner, and a variety of informative educational sessions. Read more.
